Creating The Perfect Man Cave Bathroom
This post was contributed by a guest author.
It’s already been fairly well established that having a man cave is essential. While some of you may be hard at work putting the finishing touches on your masculine refuge (anyone spending their free time building keg stools?), others are still struggling to obtain a space in which to have one.
This might include long-winded discussions with the missus about why her sewing room would be better painted black and equipped with a beer fridge and a ‘No Trespassing’ sign on the door. Or, you may be attempting to justify why the car now needs to be parked on the street and the garage turned into a manly hideaway.
No matter where you are in the process, one thing is for sure: your man cave bathroom must echo your man cave style. You simply cannot have a proper man cave leading into a frilly bathroom with tea rose soap and pink towels.
So how to create a masculine bathroom that’s every bit as much of a retreat as your man cave? There are ways to make this room relaxing without being the slightest bit girly, and we’ll help you get started.
Look At Your Space
What type of room do you have to work with? Are we talking about a tiny half bathroom as a convenience for your man cave, or a full bathroom that you can make into a luxury experience? This will help determine how many fixtures you’ll need to replace or install- toilet, basin, vanity and bath or shower.
Choose Manly Colours
Every guy is different. You are unique so you need to go with what’s best for you, but in general conservative colours tend to work well for many men. These are your browns, deep greys and of course straight black. It all depends on your personal style and what will look best with your man cave.
Think manly colours on your floor, walls and even fixtures. This could mean smart black tiles, a graphite-coloured wall, black bath panels, or, if you’re the outdoor type, dark brown marble.
Just because it’s your Man Cave bathroom, it doesn’t have to be grotty!
Add Some Rugged Details
Get creative in your manly bathroom and replace standard features with rougher more masculine pieces. Instead of a white vanity with ceramic basin, for example, change it up with a rustic wooden cupboard paired with a stone basin. Or, go with a stainless steel industrial-style basin and jagged edge mirror. Instead of a standard bath, have a walk-in shower tiled in natural stone.
Some of today’s most popular accessories are actually perfect for manly bathrooms. Look for chrome bathroom accessories in angular, minimalist styles. These metal Harley-style pieces look cool and are built to last from solid brass coated in shiny chrome. Chrome bathroom accessories like basin taps and shower heads go with just about anything.
For towels, go for colours that match your bathroom furnishings- or accent your furnishings with a little colour. Dark red (not magenta), navy blue, or army green can add some style to your bathroom without looking like you’re channelling your metro side.
