The prevailing wisdom used to be that being dapper and having facial hair could not coexist. Thankfully, the 21st century has proven that wrong, as multitudes of actors, celebrities and athletes have eschewed that blasphemy and made it cool again.
Nonetheless, there is a difference between facial hair and a well-groomed beard. Consequently, if you want to be a dapper Dan, follow these cogent beard grooming tips.
Take Your Time
Hair does not grow overnight, and not all of it proceeds at the same pace. So let it blossom, let it grow. Don’t get impatient, and don’t cut until it’s the right time.
Put Your Money Where Your Mouth is
In this case, that means invest in a good trimmer. You will be using that baby almost every day, so don’t skimp. Make sure it has a variety of attachments or settings to allow you to trim different hairs to different lengths.
Don’t be a Dirty Dude
Body soap is usually not the best product to use on your beard hair or facial skin. We recommend buying a good scrub to rid your face of dead or dry skin, a beard cleaner to keep your hair clean and a good organic beard oil to make it really manageable and, well, dapper.
Shape Shifting
A lot of men choose a beard shape because someone they think is cool has one. While this may work for some, remember to choose what looks best on you, not your buddy.
Get it on the Train
Training your beard is key. Brush it or comb it regularly to get the curly or crazy-shaped hairs out and make sure everything is pointing downward, dog.
Eat Right
Hair needs protein and vitamins to grow, so bulk up on green leafy vegetables, lean meats, egg yolks, milk and nuts, as well as B3, B5 and B9.
So take care of that facial hair every day with the best beard products, and it will repay you with admission to the league of dapper gentlemen.
